Sudden Impact

On Friday Night of last week, our truck was involved in a Hit and Run accident. We were getting ready for bed when a neighbor came knocking. They informed us that our vehicle had been "jacked up". Our pick-up had been pushed 40ft into another vehicle and then went another 10ft. So the vehicle, a Chevy Suburban, slammed into the back of our truck and pushed it 50ft down the street into another vehicle and up on the sidewalk infront of the neightbors home. You can see the damage in the pictures. Poilce located the Chevy Suburban who had fled the scene, with the help of two eyewitnesses, parked in a gated driveway around the corner. The Chevy Suburban was impounded although the driver had dissappeared and the vehicle was parked at a different address than the one the vehicle was registered at. The incident is still under investigation. However the suspect has come to our home and appologized and claimed responibility, but we'll see what really happens. We are glad that no one was hurt, however we are sad that Matt's truck has been temporaily out of commission. It's a pian in the butt to have to tow three children into the minivan at 3am to drive Matt to work and then tow them back to bed.
What a pain. Matt also has to wait for us to pick him up from work and because we don't have cell phones and I'm a busy mom he ends up doing a lot of waiting on outside the plant in the HOT desert sun. Poor baby. It's amazing to me how one person's choice affects so many. Way to go reckless driver-YOU SUCK!

Sleepover

This is pretty normal scene here in the Spencer abode. You might wonder: Don't they all have their own beds? Why Yes, they do!

However slumber parties are so much more fun! It makes me think of the Parent Trap song "Let's get together Yeah yeah yeah"!

Teeth and Fairies

The Tooth Fairy came to visit our house twice in the last week.

First it came to Aurora who has been anxiously awaiting her first tooth to fall out.

When her tooth finally was able to be pulled by SUPER Dad, she place her little pearly tooth

under her pillow and the Tooth Fairy brought her one whole dollar!!

Then last night the tooth fairy visited Gracie. She had to have Oral surgery yesterday, and

had one tooth extracted and had had several root canals done and some gum surgery, so

she’s resting and drinking plenty of fluids, she also got a dollar for her big decaying molar.

We had many Easter adventures over the last couple of weeks. It started off with Grandma Peterson coming down on the Jerauld Spring Break Van-O-Fun! We then had a fun filled weekend of eating out, free babysitting (by grandma), and a Easter Egg hunt to remember. We went to a community Easter EGG Hunt Sponsored by Grace Point Church, it was lots of fun with free ice cream, free kids crafts, free bounce houses, and a HUGE huge egg hunt where 25,000 eggs where dropped from a helicopter! Sounds great huh…. well its all fun and games until your child gets lost in a crowd of THOUSANDS!!!! In the 4-6 age area parents were supposed to stay behind the lines while the kids gathered eggs, unfortunately no one got the memo, so when Gracie ran out to get her eggs we lost her in the huge crowd. I was in a panic!!! My mom stayed with the other girls while Matt and I searched fro Gracie. It was horrendous, people everywhere. We split up can were calling for Gracie, while several other parents were shouting for their kids too. I got a feeling to stop and pray, so that’s just what I did. I stopped in the middle of the field with thousands of people passing by and prayed. Then I saw Matt with Gracie! He had found her with another little girl about her age and her mother. They were just about to take her to the kids lost and found tent. I was so relieved- but because of this we will never go to this big even again- It scared us to death. My girlfriend Alisha had also come to this activity with their family and their youngest got lost too.. after searching a good deal they were able to find her in the Lost Child Tent crying and worried. both mother and child cried that day. It was insane- i was so embarrassed to have taken my friend to such a big out of control event.

The kids were very spoiled and able to go to another Easter Egg hunt at their Uncle Phillips. Phillip has a 5acre farm in Hiko, Nv and the kids got to search for eggs in his park. They rode a pony and 4 wheelers, and play with their cousins. The Easter Bunny found them in Hiko, and left them a fun Bug Egg filled basket and they even got to go to Grandma Spencer’s church on Easter Sunday in their new dresses. We had a great time!!

Aurora’s Robot

Aurora’s class has been reading “My Robot by Eve Bunting” This book is about different things a robot can do.

Aurora had a family homework assignment this week, to design and build a robot. The first thing Aurora asked for was blue construction paper. I asked her why and she said “I need it for my blueprint.” She wrote a design on blue construction paper with a white crayon. (sorry there is no image it didn’t show up well in the picture) She was also instructed to write a short paragraph describing her Robot and it’s special skills. She wrote “ My robot can do my homework for me. It plays games with me. It is very funny. It reads with me before bedtime. I like it that way. It goes to sleep with me. It guards me while I’m sleeping. It’s name is CooCoo Head.” We had a really fun time going to Lowes to look for parts on Family Night, PVC pipes for legs and feet, springs for arms (and yes they will wave at you), #10 cans for the body, a peach can for the neck, a lamp visor for the head and a head lamp for it’s brain. Aurora and her Dad are the engineers who put CooCoo together. You can’t tell very well from these pictures but a special feature of Aurora’s robot it that in the center of the funnel (lamp visor) is a light that turns on and off and also can blink. This is Aurora’s idea of it’s brain. And of course it’s a girl!! Aurora points out that while it’s wearing it’s necklace and tutu it is from a robot planet called “Hawaii”. (She thinks with these accessories it looks at though CooCoo Head will hula) You may also be wondering about the name CooCoo Head, no it does not imply crazy, it’s part of Aurora’s unique language of CooCoo. She has invented it herself and uses it often, most words in the CooCoo language include CooCoo and CooCoo-minga. Well CooCoo Head will be making her appearance at school tomorrow and we are anxious to see how she’ll be received. We are sure it will be to immense applause. Way to go Aurora!

This is a typical picture in our home- Mom at the computer. This picture was taken by me Gracie! My mom's favorite thing to do is homework. She does it all the time, even when I'm asleep. Sometimes when I wake up she's still sitting at the computer. Mommy has to read and read and read. Then think- and write, and write and write. Daddy even picks ups the house so Mommy can do homework. I have homework too and so does Rory. I get stickers for my homework, and Rory gets A's- Mommy gets headaches! *This was typed by Mommy avioding her homework. She says that's called "procrastination" can you say "Procrastination"!

Just a quick update from our little clan:

We had so much fun getting Christmas cards from our long lost family and friends. We decided not to send Christmas Cards out this year, due to cost- stamps alone to mail to just Matt's siblings would cost close to $9.00, then there are nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends just on his side of the family and then there would be my side as well. It just seemed an economic impossibility. So anyone who bothers reading this blog should consider it our Christmas Card.

As 2010 ended Aurora is top in her class! She also ranks #1 in Reading Fluency in the entire 1st grade in her school. She is a definite smarty pants- we are so proud of her- Miss A Honor Roll. Her only wish is that she would get to be on the toothless poster- she has yet to get a loose tooth or lose one- Every time one of her friends looses one she cries. She asked Santa several times to loose her two front teeth. We're afraid she'll be doomed with her mothers teeth, (the dentist had to pull mine). Santa did grant another wish for her though and left her a Princess Jilly Bean Pink Zhu Zhu pet, a new set of scriptures, and an art set to die for. She also was surprised with a Pixie Hollow membership which is truly addicting.

Gracie is doing super in her speech pre-k class. Her vocabulary and intelligibility are increasing daily. She's a word whiz. She's also started some reading and writing her own name. Smart as a whip this one. Although her trait she inherited from her mother, like Aurora's tooth issue, may also be a stumbling block. Gracie is a steadfast solider, once she decides on something she is immovable, which can include refusal to do her school work. Although we think we have discovered the secret to a more happy and compliant girl- a good nights sleep! Since eliminating naps and setting an earlier bedtime, she has had good behavior reports everyday!!!! What a great girl! Santa also visited Gracie, which she was very enthusiastic for (she really got into Santa this year), She received the coveted Strawberry Shortcake Cafe, a Tinkerbell Tea set and Beloved Tinkerbell figurines.

Ehlana has arrived at the terrible twos! She is a very busy girl and always wants to follow in her big sister's footsteps. She is talking so well and can count to 5 sometimes even to 10. She even recognizes some letters of the alphabet. She is my super potty trainer and I believe she will win the contest of fastest to be trained in our family- she's taken on the initiative by herself, a true independent. She is the family comic and keeps us in stitches. Her only lamentation is when she misses her sister Gracie while she is at school, Mom is so boring you know. Santa also brought special things for her too including a Weebles Tree house, a sweet baby doll, and a baby stroller. She's a very sweet little mother.

Matt and I have had a busy year too.

Matt is still the Stake 11 year old Boy Scout Leader, as well as the ward leader, he also keeps busy teaching Elders Quorum twice a month. He still works for CalPortland and will work what ever hours they will give him driving cement mixer. He's been there 12 years now. What a trooper! He has gone into complete hunting withdrawal, including the shakes-LOL- He was not drawn out for a tag again this year- Poor Matt- the great white hunter mourns for the thrill of the hunt! His father passed away this year after a two year battle with cancer and that has been a truly mournful thing. On a happier note Santa did visit Matt this year although the children were sure that Santa doesn't come to grown-ups. He received a cool new flashlight that shows blood in the dark. (It's supposed to be for tracking your kill, but we all know he'll probably use it to clean up the mess after I drive him to a murderous rage LOL)

Finally, Emilie- I was emancipated from my calling as a Relief Society President at the end of September and was just called last week as a Beehive Advisor. I've enjoyed the past three months break but was ready to sink my teeth into a new adventure. School has been going well and Spring Semester is only a week and half away. I was able to end Fall semester with two A's and an A-. I plan on viewing each semester individually so I don't get shell shocked over the immense amount to time school will take me to finish, also I must keep my eye on the prize! Santa visited me this year too, I was blessed with the long awaited tackle box for my jewelry, and great vinyl cutting guides for my domestic adventures with sewing. Someday my creations will end up in the Ripleys Believe It or Not museum as the strangest sewing creations ever.

Taking Strollers from Babies

It all started this morning at 5:30am- I was sleeping soundly when my husband woke me up and said "Em, did you give away our double stroller?"

I said groggily "No" he said "well it's gone." I replied "what? the one on the top or the bottom" "Top " "That's so sad" I said Matt left for work. I couldn't go back to sleep. I got up went outside to the car port where we keep the stroller, I had to see for myself if it was really gone, it really was. There was another one there though, it's not ours, a family in the ward gave it to the church to give if anyone needed it, I was just storing it. I walked around the front yard looking in the grass for stroller marks, doing a little "CSI" no such luck. I went back in and tried to sleep. I don't know when I finally dosed off- I woke up to the alarm. I was getting the kids ready for school, still brewing over the theft, I told Aurora someone took the stroller- she wanted to go see (she's like her mother). This was about 8am. When we went outside lo and behold the other stroller was gone!! While we were out there a car pulled up to our house saw me and drove away- I thought I bet that's who stole our strollers-Now I was really freaked! I moved the tire, furniture blanket and large broom into the backyard, they left some stroller parts, I left them up front and wrote a note on them "Dear Stroller Thief, You forgot some of the stroller parts. Love Our Sad Children P.S. The other stroller belonged to our church so you stole from them too!" I admit when I wrote the first part I was thinking about Les Miserables where Jean Valjean steals from Bishop Myriel. "the benevolent Bishop Myriel, the Bishop of Digne, takes him in and gives him shelter. In the middle of the night, he steals the bishop’s silverware and runs. He is caught, but the bishop rescues him by claiming that the silverware was a gift and at that point gives him his two silver candlesticks as well, chastising him to the police for leaving in such a rush that he forgot these most valuable pieces. The bishop then "reminds" him of the promise, which Valjean has no recollection of making, to use the silver to make an honest man of himself."

But in the end I wrote the P.S. on the note because I was so angry! I'm not as Christ like as the Bishop in the story. I asked Aurora "What lesson is Heavenly Father trying to teach us?" she said " Maybe we need to pray." she then disappeared while I was making breakfast. She returned and said "Mom, I went in my room and prayed for us" she then gave me a hug. She is so sweet. I told her "We are all children of God. Even the people who stole the strollers are children of God, they just made a bad choice" "She said "I know" I asked "How do we forgive them for taking our strollers?" She said "I'm not sad, as long as we have our house, I'm not sad." I said " Your teaching me a lot." I'm still stewing over this violation, I made a police report, and scoped my neighborhood, I even alerted my next door neighbor, I called the power company and the gas company to alert them to the fact that I'm now going to be locking the back gate against intruders so we'll have to make arrangements to read the meter, other safety precautions are going to be made as well. I just know that if I go yard sale-ing this weekend I'm going to see my stroller in front of someones house and then what? I realise I really need to work on forgiveness! What would Jesus do? I can't let this anger and fear affect me so. I'm only doing myself harm. They were just strollers, sure they made my life easier, but in the end they are replaceable. What if it was worse...

What really happened:

Tried to call and hire a babysitter- no luck, didn't try to long, I wasn't feeling good after trumatic tooth fillings at dentist today. Decided to go buy something soft for dinner and stop at Red Box at about 6:30 with girls in tow (hubby was still at work)-Hubby calls at 7:30 says he's on his way home I cry to him about sore mouth he offers to bring me something if I needed anyhting I decline but ask him If its ok if we skip our date,and opt for a good lazy night, he sounds happy on the other end. So here we are it's 10pm the little girls dropped at about 9:00 except for Gracie who is our night owl, I'm blogging and he's doing bills- the red box movie still in it's case. This is a typical Friday Night here.

We have two new baby chicks at our house. Big Mama our chicken hatched these chicks this last weekend. We got eggs from Uncle Phillip and put them under Big Mama on the 10th of April and were expecting them on or around Mother's Day, but they arrived a little early. We lost 2 chicks to our other hens but two surrvied and we're happy to have them. One chick looks like a penguin to me so I think we're going to name it Pablo- like the penguin on the disney story, you know the one who wanted to live in the sun not the artic. The other one should be named something like Darth Vador in honor of Issacs love for Star Wars and he's a dark feathered chick. We hope they are Hens or they will have to goto Uncle Phillips. We won't know for sometime so for now -We Love Our Chicks!

It's been a year since I posted that Gracie was potty training; It has been a tumultuous one. After 8 months of little to no success, Gracie finally showed some huge progress in December after her cousin Kaylynn's 3rd birthday party. While in the bathroom she observed Kaylynns fully stickered Potty chart, (although we had used potty charts they didn't seem to interest her) and when we got home she had initiative to produce in her potty. This was a huge step because it wasn't just this once she continued to go, although we still had many accidents (Oh did I say Many I meant Many Many Many Many Many Many Many............ accidents) There were times when I was going to give up completely, but kept pressing forward!! We had potty seat changes, chart changes, we borrowed books from the library on going potty (for mommy and for Gracie), we played going potty games online and watched over 7+ movies on going potty, learned songs about going potty, set the timer for going potty, posted signs in the house to remind me to be patient and to keep trying, cried to grandma about potty training(that was me not Gracie), gave rewards for going potty, read article after article about potty training and listened to lots of well meaning advice from friends and family, used pull-ups then transitioned into Gerber cloth training pants with vinyl cover sewn-on then finally into training panties and then now into regular girly cute panties. I was resolved to the fact that I would have to remind her and physically escort her to the potty for the rest of her natural life, and never rest from the constant observance of body language and the clock.

But just in the last couple of weeks we've had a major break through: Gracie has been vocalizing the need to go and going potty!!!!! Also she has been observed taking herself potty!!!!!!!

This is wonderful and then today (the day of miracles) Gracie my sweet little Gracie went potty,without a parent, pulled down her own pants (which we have vigorously been working on) sat on the potty without assitence of stool or potty seat insert and went potty and not just # 1 but the infamous never to have been seen in the toliet ~ #2!!!!!!!!!!!!! (This all secretly observed by me, because Gracie is a netoriously private girl) She then flushed by herself and ran out of the bathroom to procalim "I DID IT!!! I WENT PEE AND POOP IN THE POTTY!!! I WANT 3 CHOCOLATES!!!!!!" (she usually only gets one for a #1 ) So after quietly praising her (although I wanted to scream "YES!!!!YOU WONDERFUL GIRL ! YOUR AMAZING AND SMART AND SO BIG AND GREAT AND YES!!!!!!!", but Gracie is embarrassed easily and crys with too much loud praise) and reminding her to wipe and wash hands -I got down her 3 chocolates and we called Grandma and Aunt Tammie and did a happy dance.

So Yes there is a Santa Claus Virgina, and now after a year+ of potty training I see it...the Light at the End of this long, dark smelly tunnel...it's still a little ways away but its there we won't be in the dark much longer...I see the Light!

College Here I Come!.......Again

School Days, School Days.........

It's Offical~ I will be attending the College of Southern Nevada Fall 2010! I will be starting an Associate of Arts Program with a major in Secondary Education. We have yet to hear if I've been granted a Pell Grant, the college will start reviewing applications for Fall in the middle of April. So please add us to your prayers; but grant or not school will start for me this fall. I'm super excited and nervous! Gracie wlll also be starting a new school: Beckley Elementry in their Pre-K Speech Preschool, she'll be riding the bus and be gone for 2 1/2 hrs. This will give me time to do school online with only Ehlana as company. Rory will be going into first grade and hopefully will be granted a zone variance so she can continue going to Diaz where she'll be attending gender seperated classes. So Fall 2010 is the start of a new era here in the Spencer Lodge~ so pull out your number 2 pencils-We're going back to School!!!!!!

We took the whole family and waited in line for about 45min. by our good friends and had a blast eating bread made by the "Brownies" and drinking "Magic Milk" so we could see the fairies when we went into meet Mr. Mull. He signed all four of our Fablehaven books and we purchased a copy of Pingo and he signed that as well, we also pre-ordered a copy of the final Fablehaven book (it comes to stores on March 23rd) which will arrive signed! We've read all his books as a family so it was a treat to go see him. The children behaved so well and were truly angels! The woman standing right behind us even bought the girls more milk and bread because they were behaving so well. She gave us a huge compliment, she said that she could tell we were good parents because our kids were so well behaved! This outing was my birthday celebration, even though my b-day's not until the 15th, we ended the night by stopping at Pizza hut and enjoyed eating salad and pizza with the kids and my sweet hubby. It was so fun and we can't wait until Book 5 arrives!

It's a New Year and it's time for a new look! I'm excited about changing the style and look of our blog. I also hope to do more writing this year than just photo blogging.

We've stepped into a New Era here in our home~ Infant Freedom!!! Ehlana has grown out of her infant carrier/carseat and we've finally stopped nursing. Baby toys and clothing are just sitting and ready to be passed on to future nieces. We haven't passed anything on over these past 5 yrs+ because our family was still growing but now we've reached the end of our family train with Ehlana as the caboose. We're ready to take on new challenges and excitement and free our storage of everything Infant! We've moved the girls all in the same room and made the baby room into a play room and the family room is now just that a family room not a toy disaster every visiter trips over! So on to the future.......

So here is my poor baby and her amoxicillian allergy.On Day 1 we weren't sure what we were dealing with, we stopped giving her amoxixillian-Day 2 she saw the Dr and he recomended giving her benadryl so we did and as you can see it continued to get worse- Day 3 she looked just awful and had a temp of 103 so after calling the on call nurse I took her to the ER- they gave her a tylenol supository and increased her benadryl dose. She continued getting worse until this morning when she finally seems to be reacting to the benadryl, the spots are still present but starting to fade.

Well my baby is going to go to Kindergarten in just a short while, I had a complete meltdown about it last night. I woke up Matt (accidentally) crying about how she's so little and what if kids are mean to her and what if she needs help with school lunch or finding the bathroom or finding her classroom or doing her school work or making friends ect.... I was worried about maybe I didn't give her enough leway on picking out her school shoes, did she really get the ones she wanted.....Anyway I'm a big cry baby, Matt said she's growing up and everything will be fine and we need to give her some independence. This all sounds very logical..... I know I'm not the only one concerned about school, Aurora asked me this morning if she could just do school work at school that she didn't want to have homework because "I don't want to do school in the dark" I tried to explain that the sun will still be up when she's working on homework and that there will be plently enough time to play after. She's also concerned about missing her favorite PBS shows like Super Why. I told her she'll be so busy doing fun and cool stuff at school she really won't care she's missing her shows.Well the point is we are entering a new phase here in the Spencer Household, and frankly were all just a little nervous but we know it will be great!

Gracie Faye is Turning Three! I can't believe it my adorable Gracie is turning 3! She is having a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Party (pics to come later). She loves Mickey and Minnie! She has been saying the cutest things lately she has been able to identify the letter "w" but refers to it at a "double-me" and the letter "u" as "me". She's growing up! We're so excited for her to start speech in just a few weeks, I'm sure she'll be talking up a storm in just a short while. What a Girl!

From Vegas, to Heber City, To Vegas, to Rexburg, to Payson, and back home again~ we've had a busy week. Riding Thomas the Train, Playing at Bridal Viel Falls, Graduating Preschool, going to both great-grandparents funerals, playing with cousins and going to a wedding, Rides in the wagon with Grandpa Peterson and collapsing at home. AHHHH- what a week!

Chicken fun continues today we've gathered our first egg! Matt went out to build little nest boxes for the hens and found an egg. The girls were so excited. Aurora can't wait to eat it!

So the chickens have arrived, instead of 4 little hens we were blessed with 3 mama hens and 6 babie hens (hopefully none are roosters!) The girls are so excited and were ready to feed and water them. Our little farmers! "Aurora loves the chickens the small ones and the big ones even though she says they may scratch her when they grow up."

Building a coop for our new pets- 4 little hens! It's take your kid to work day and Matt can't take the kids to his work; so they went to 7-11 for sodas, a thing Matt does while he's at work, and they had sack lunchs( also a Daddy work thing) in the backyard and helped him work on the new coop here at home. It was a fun work day!

We have had so many adventures lately~going to Grandma and Grandpa's in Utah for Eatser, Swimming Lessons, and Potty Training for Gracie. What a fun last few weeks. Summer is upon us and it's already 95 degree weather here in Vegas, we've pulled out the summer clothes and are looking forward to some fun camping this summer!
